Spool: Filament Tracker for iPhone, iPad and Mac

Lance Studio ("we", "us", or "our") makes the Spool app for iPhone, iPad and Mac (the "App") and runs this website. This page explains what data the App and the website handle, where it lives, and what leaves your device.

1. Information the App Handles

1.1 Information You Enter

When you use Spool, you create and manage:

• Filament Inventory Data: Brand names, material types, colours, weights, purchase prices, storage locations, seal and drying records, and humidity readings you enter
• Print History: Print names, categories, durations, material usage, print settings, success or failure status, ratings, notes, and optional photographs
• 3D Printer and Equipment Information: Printer, dryer and AMS models, power profiles, and maintenance records
• User Preferences: Currency, units, electricity rates and schedules, theme, language, and other settings
• Shopping List: Items you wish to purchase, including estimated prices and priorities
• Files You Share to Spool: Sliced files, slicer screenshots, label photos and order screenshots are read on your device to pre-fill a print or a spool. The App does not upload them.

None of this reaches us. It stays on your device and, if you enable sync, in your own iCloud (section 3).

1.2 Anonymous Usage Analytics

Unless you turn analytics off (section 9.4), the App sends anonymous technical signals to TelemetryDeck (section 4.1) to help us improve it:

• Identifier: A random identifier the App generates and stores on your device to count users. It is not derived from your device, your Apple ID or the advertising identifier. You can replace it at any time from Settings → Privacy in the App.
• Usage Signals: Which features are used (for example "spool added" or "analytics viewed"), screen views, app version and operating system version. Import signals carry counts, confidence levels, whether a file had a thumbnail, and the name of the slicer that produced a file. No spool names, print names, photos, tag data, prices or contact details are transmitted.
• Error Signals: If the App's database fails to open or a file cannot be read, an anonymous signal describing the error type is sent. It carries no contents.
• Crash Reports: The App includes no crash-reporting service. If you have opted in to sharing crash data with developers in iOS or macOS settings, Apple passes anonymised crash reports to us under Apple's terms.

1.3 Features That Contact Other Services

These requests happen only when you use the feature. Like any request on the internet, each carries your device's IP address to the service that receives it, and that service may log it under its own policy.

• Bambu Cloud: If you connect your Bambu Lab account, you type your password on Bambu Lab's own sign-in page inside the App. Spool stores only the session token and cookies that page returns, in your device's Keychain, and uses them to fetch your finished prints from Bambu Lab so you can log them. The App does not store your password.
• Product Links: If you paste a product link on Add Spool, Spool fetches that page from the vendor's site to read the product details.
• Affiliate Links: Reorder and Find Online links can be affiliate links, marked as such. The App fetches the list of affiliate programmes from lance-studio.com as a plain file request. If you buy through an affiliate link, the affiliate network pays us a commission; we receive no details of your purchase.
• SpoolTag Links: An NFC tag or QR label written by Spool encodes a lance-studio.com link carrying that spool's brand, material, colour name, colour code and, when set, its seal state, so a scan can open the spool in Spool or in its App Clip. If Spool is not installed, the phone loads that page from lance-studio.com like any web page. Anyone who scans the tag can read those details.
• Label Scanning and Smart Import: Text recognition and on-device Apple Intelligence run on your device. The App does not upload photos or label images.

2. How We Use Information

• Provide Core Functionality: Store your inventory, print logs and preferences on your device and, if enabled, sync them across your devices through your iCloud
• Improve the App: Understand which features are used and find bugs from anonymous analytics and crash reports
• Customer Support: Answer what you send us when you contact us for help
• Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and respond to lawful requests from authorities

3. Data Storage and Synchronisation

3.1 Local Storage

All your filament data, print logs and preferences are stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework, on iPhone, iPad and Mac alike.

3.2 iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud Sync in the App's settings:

• Your data is stored in the private database of your own iCloud account (container ID: iCloud.com.Spool.FilamentTrackerSync)
• Apple encrypts it in transit and at rest, it is readable on devices signed in with your Apple ID, and Apple handles it under Apple's own privacy policy
• We have no access to your iCloud data
• You can disable iCloud Sync at any time in Settings → Data Management

3.3 App Group Storage

We use an App Group (group.com.Spool.FilamentTracker) to share data between the App, its widgets, the Live Activity and the share extension. This data stays on your device.

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 TelemetryDeck (Analytics)

Service Provider: TelemetryDeck GmbH (Germany)

What the App Sends:

• The random identifier described in section 1.2
• App version and build number
• Feature usage and error signals as described in section 1.2
• Basic device info (OS version, device model)

Why We Use It: TelemetryDeck's own policy states that it uses no cookies or tracking pixels, does not track users across apps, stores data on servers in the European Union, and is designed so that individual users cannot be identified.

You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data.

4.2 Apple iCloud

If you enable sync, your data is stored on Apple's iCloud servers.

4.3 Bambu Cloud (Optional)

If you connect your Bambu Lab account, the App calls Bambu Lab's API with your session token to fetch your finished prints. Bambu Lab handles that account under its own policy.

4.4 Affiliate Networks

When you follow a Reorder or Find Online link:

• Amazon Associates: We earn a commission if you purchase through our affiliate links. Amazon may use cookies to track purchases under Amazon's own policy.
• AWIN: We use AWIN to monetise links to some vendors. AWIN tracks clicks and conversions under its own policy and does not share your personal data with us.

4.5 Vendor Pages You Paste

Product details fetched from a pasted link come from that vendor's website under the vendor's own privacy policy. Spool sends nothing to the vendor beyond the page request.

5. Data the App Does NOT Collect

• ❌ Your name, email address, or phone number (unless you contact support)
• ❌ Your location
• ❌ Your contacts or calendar
• ❌ Your photos, except those you pick for a print, a spool or Smart Import, which stay on your device
• ❌ Biometric data
• ❌ Advertising identifiers (IDFA); the App never asks for tracking permission
• ❌ Browsing history outside the App
• ❌ The contents of your inventory or print history in analytics

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell or rent personal data. Data leaves your device only in these cases:

6.1 When You Use a Feature That Needs It

When you enable iCloud Sync, connect Bambu Cloud, paste a product link, follow an affiliate link, or scan a SpoolTag without Spool installed (sections 1.3 and 3.2).

6.2 For Analytics

Anonymous usage signals go to TelemetryDeck (section 4.1) unless you turn analytics off.

6.3 Legal Obligations

We may disclose information we hold if required by law or to:

• Comply with legal processes (subpoenas, court orders)
• Protect our rights and property
• Prevent fraud or illegal activity
• Protect user safety

6.4 Business Transfers

If Lance Studio is acquired or merges with another company, the anonymous analytics and support emails we hold may pass to the new owner. Your inventory and print history are not ours to transfer: they stay on your device and in your iCloud.

7. Data Security

• Encryption in Transit: The App's network requests use HTTPS
• Encryption at Rest: iCloud data is encrypted by Apple
• Credential Storage: Bambu Lab session tokens and cookies are stored in the Keychain
• Passwords: The App does not store your Bambu Lab password; sign-in happens on Bambu Lab's own page

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. While we take these measures, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Data Retention

• Local Data: Stays on your device until you delete the App or delete the items yourself
• iCloud Data: Stays in your iCloud account until you delete it there (section 9.3)
• Analytics Data: Anonymous signals are retained by TelemetryDeck under its own policy
• Crash Reports: Held by Apple under Apple's terms
• Support Email: Emails you send us stay in our mailbox for as long as we need them to help you

9. Your Rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and objection. Because your inventory and print history never reach us, most of them are things you do yourself in the App:

9.1 Access and Portability

Export everything (spools, printers, storage, print logs, drying history, shopping list, categories, tags and electricity rate history) as a JSON or .spoolbackup file via Settings → Data Management → Export Data.

9.2 Rectification

Edit or correct any data directly in the App (tap any spool or print to edit).

9.3 Deletion

To delete all your data:

1. Disable iCloud Sync in Settings → Data Management
2. Delete the Spool app from each of your devices
3. To remove Spool's data from iCloud as well, delete it in your device's iCloud storage settings

Analytics signals are anonymous and cannot be linked to you, so there is nothing about you for us to find or delete. If you have any question about this, contact us at spool@lance-studio.com.

9.4 Opt-Out of Analytics

Turn off Share anonymous usage data in Settings → Privacy inside the App. Signals stop immediately; turning it back on takes effect the next time the App launches. The App does not use the advertising identifier, so no system-level tracking setting is involved.

9.5 Withdraw Consent

• Disable iCloud Sync: Settings → Data Management
• Disconnect Bambu Cloud: Open the Hub, choose Bambu, and tap Log Out

10. Children's Privacy

Spool is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

11. International Data Transfers

Data may be processed in:

• United States: Apple iCloud servers (if you are in a region served by US data centres), under Apple's participation in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework
• European Union: TelemetryDeck servers (Germany)

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a new "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Where personal data is processed at all, it is under the following legal bases:

• Consent: When you enable iCloud Sync or connect Bambu Cloud
• Legitimate Interest: Anonymous analytics to improve the App, which you can switch off
• Contract Performance: Providing the core App functionality you expect

15. This Website

spool-tracker.com is a static site hosted on Netlify, whose servers may log requests under Netlify's own policy. The site sets no cookies. It counts page views and outbound clicks through TelemetryDeck using a random value generated for each page load and never stored, so no visitor is recognised across visits. The site collects no personal data and has no forms.
